DMR

DMR radios are based on the DMR technology standard. Compared to traditional analog radios, DMR radios use digital signal transmission, which offers higher spectrum utilization efficiency, better sound quality, safer information transmission, and richer data applications. DMR radios have replaced analog radios with significant advantages and are used in various industry sectors.

Highlights

  • Doubling of capacity in existing licensed channels

The TDMA technique in DMR allows two simultaneous and independent calls to be carried on a single 12.5 kHz channel. This is done by splitting the channel into two alternating time slots, A and B, as shown in Figure. Radios 1 and 3 communicate on time slot A, while Radios 2 and 4 use time slot B.
  • Backwards spectrum compatibility with legacy systems

License holders might need to keep their current licenses to ensure compatibility with older radios or external analog systems. Since DMR uses 12.5 kHz channels, it is already compatible with the required spectrum.
  • Efficient use of infractructure equipment

DMR TDMA allows you to use two communication channels with just one repeater, antenna, and duplexer. This is more efficient than FDMA systems, which require separate repeaters for each channel and expensive combining equipment. By using TDMA, you can achieve 6.25 kHz efficiency while reducing costs and simplifying your setup.
  • Ease of use and creation of data applications

DMR's digital nature allows for easy integration of applications like text messaging, GPS, and telemetry. With its doubled channel capacity and AIS standard, DMR can efficiently support data applications alongside voice services and connect to other networks.
  • Superior audio performance

DMR's digital technology improves noise rejection and voice quality compared to analog, especially at long distances. This is due to FEC and CRC coders, which detect and correct transmission errors. This digital processing enhances clarity and range, allowing users to respond effectively in changing field conditions.
